NUMERACY OVERVIEW

Mathematics Yearly Overview - This is a working document which outlines all the areas that need to be taught in VELS level 4. The document outlines: learning focui, standards, learning objectives, maths vocabulary and resources. The document is beneficial in team planning where teams highlight what areas they want to cover for each term. The document has been trialed in 3 schools in the WMR and has had positive results with teachers feeling satisfied knowing that they have covered the maths domain fully. It has also been shared and trialed in the Deer Park/Sunshine network. As mentioned earlier, it is still a working document and may need some more work. Please email me (Monika) and provide feedback as it is very much welcomed. Enjoy! N.B. If you are interested in other VELS levels, email me for a copy.

LESSON RESOURCES

*1-1000 Number Chart

paste these number charts together.

* Symmetry in Car Logos

Good to use for whole class focus. Identify the symmetry. Great to use on IWBs > draw the lines of symmetry.

* Converting Measurements

Once playing 'Converting Length Measurements' cards, students can create their own loop cards and share them with another student making Volume/Capacity conversion loop cards.

* Prime Numbers - The Sieve of Eratosthenes

This sheet allows students to look at number patterns in a different way. Usually students see number charts as 10x10, but this chart is a 6x23 chart. Patterns can still be seen. This activity promotes 'working mathematically' allowing students to explore patterns leading into the exploration of 'Prime Numbers. This sheet uses the Sieve of Eratosthenes (a simple, ancient algorithm for finding all prime numbers).

This sheet is from worksheetworks. It is a number chart from 2-200 and has an answer key of all the prime numbers.
